  • The colony of New Hampshire was first founded in 1623 by the English. external image mc0081_305.jpg

  • They fled from Massachusetts to esacape territorial and religious disqutes and became a separate royal colony.

  • The first settlement was Hampton.

  • A well known person from New Hampshire was Captian John Mason, who was basically the founder. He served as governor of Newfoundland before receiving a patent for the land (he also came up the the name New Hampshire).

  • They supported themselves economicly by fishing and making trades. Though it is more popular today, they also made quiet some money on granite (hence the name "the Granite State").
